It feels good to be known, especially at the gym.

There’s something that just feels good about being in an environment where people know you. This is especially true at the gym.

Instead of being a stranger, in a crowd of folks where all of the other people know each other, when you are one of the people that are known, its quite rewarding. You get “hey how ya doin’s” and “high fives, + nice to see you” and it just feels right.

When the clerk at the bank knows you by name. When your coach at the gym asks about your family. When the barista asks about the work project you’ve been working on for a month. These small instances of being known make life better.

Imagine a time when you were with a friend at a place where you knew your way around and knew the people there, but they didn’t. You felt a sense of belonging and the fact that you could show your friend the way around and introduce them to people gave you a sense of pride. This is social proof that we’d rather be known, than unknown.

Knowing people, and your surroundings, will always feel better than being a stranger out of place.

The big box gym industry gives people the opposite feeling. With hundreds and hundreds of members coming through the doors weekly, no one knows your name when you walk in.
You likely don’t know anyone else at the gym by name, let alone personally.
Although you’re sharing a room with an array of other people all doing essentially the same thing, you know none of them and they don’t know you.

This can make for what may already be an awkward and intimidating experience for some, even worse. It’s not at all what comfortable feels like.

That’s where the micro-gym shines. Most independently owned micro gyms have under 200 members, and the owners + the staff know every persons name. Typically they know even beyond their name, but their work, their family, their hobbies, and their performance #’s from their workouts. This is true at Rampage, in Murfreesboro, TN. A gym with around 150 members, all doing some type of Personal Training, Group class or Nutrition coaching.
The members there are also known by multiple other members. It’s not uncommon for every person in a 14 person group fitness class at to know each other by name.

You get a true feeling of belonging when you walk into this more private-style gym setting like Rampage, where everyone knows your name and the staff know you personally.

When you feel comfortable, and know the people around you, you’re more likely to keep showing up week after week – which is what you need to do to see the results you wanted anyway. If you felt like a stranger, you may give up on showing up long before you could ever obtain any of the desired results.

If this resonates with you, we’d love to get to know you here at Rampage. You can fill out any of the pop up forms on our website, or even book an intro and we’ll reach out to chat.
